NMDC and IIT Hyderabad launches an incubation and fellowship programme to support startups

NMDC and Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad (IIT Hyderabad) have come together to launch an incubation and fellowship programme to support deep tech startups. This initiative is titled, NICE Program (NMDC Innovation and Incubation Centre). The objective of NICE is to promote entrepreneurship and innovation in the country and to support the Startup India movement.

Program budget of Rs 10 crore funded by NMDC –

NICE initiative is a 5-year joint program that would support 15 fellows and 15 startups by providing them financial aid, mentoring support, co-working space, other infrastructural benefits, and more. With the total program budget of Rs 10 crore funded by NMDC, NICE aims to support 5 startups every year with financial aid of up to Rs 25 lakh to convert their proof of concept into a scalable business.

IIT Hyderabad is to be the cradle for inventions –

The program would also support 5 fellows every year with a monthly stipend of Rs 80,000 for 12 months to support their sustenance and prototype development. “The vision of IIT Hyderabad is to be the cradle for inventions and innovations. This program would also act as a template for Industry-Academia collaboration to enrich the Startup India initiatives,” said B S Murty, Director, IIT Hyderabad.

More innovations are launched by these startups –

The programme will support 15 fellows & 15 startups, providing them with financial aid, mentoring support, co-working space and other infrastructural benefits. Hoping that more & more innovations are launched by these startups to make India Aatmanirbhar.

NIT Trichy innovates facility centre to promote ‘start-up’ culture in students and faculty

National Institute of Technology, Trichy (NIT Trichy) has developed a innovation facility centre jointly with the National Research Development Corporation (NRDC) to promote research. The facility will also mentor students & faculty startups & help commercialise their innovations.

IIT-Madras faculty member Krishnan Balasubramanian on Monday inaugurated an innovation facility centre of the National Research Development Corporation (NRDC) and the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Trichy. Mentoring the technical expertise of Trichy fabrication clusters –

Krishnan said research and innovation activities should make an impact in the society. He was hopeful that this is just the beginning for many startups to evolve from NIT Trichy. K Muthu Kumar, coordinator of NRDC-NIT Trichy, stressed on promoting activities of MSME sector like mentoring the technical expertise of Trichy fabrication clusters and boost fabrication of indigenous defence-related products in line with the requirements of Tamil Nadu defence corridor.

Webinars have also been planned –

S Muthukumaran, dean (Research and Consultancy) NIT Trichy, said the centre would primarily start with a focus on solid waste management and green crackers. Webinars have also been planned.
Hence, undoubtedly it is a great step towards the New National Education Policy 2020.
