IIIs Banglore understands one of the ways through which TB accelerates AIDS

Researchers of Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Banglore had deciphered one of the ways in which Tuberculosis (TB) accelerates Acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS). This group of researchers led by Associate Professor, Amit Singh comprehended the way through which TB accelerates AIDS.
Enhance the multiplication of HIV –
Tuberculosis (TB) and Human Immunodeficiency Virus/Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (HIV/AIDS) altogether cause over 2.2 million deaths each year worldwide. The two also often occur simultaneously, with people with HIV being more likely to develop TB than people who do not have HIV. Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb), the bacterium that causes TB, is known to enhance the multiplication of HIV. This synergy between the two pathogens hampers the treatment of both the conditions.
Virus hijacks different types of immune cells –
HIV is classified into two major types: HIV‑1 and HIV‑2. HIV‑1 is the more infectious and predominant of the two. After entering a human, the virus hijacks different types of immune cells – macrophages, lymphocytes and dendritic cells – and uses them to make copies of itself. It can also remain in an inactive state for many years within some immune cells. Mtb, on the other hand, primarily infects macrophages.
A group of researchers led by Amit Singh, associate professor at @iiscbangalore has deciphered one of the ways in which TB accelerates #AIDS. The study can be targeted for the design of better therapeutic interventions.

International Centre for Genetic Engineering –
“HIV and Mtb can exacerbate each other; however, there are very limited studies that show empirical data for the same,” says Dhiraj Kumar, group leader, cellular immunology, International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), who was not involved in the study. The current study is the first to show that Mtb reactivates HIV‑1.
HIV can be controlled –
HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) is a virus that attacks the body’s immune system. If HIV is not treated, it can lead to AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome). There is currently no effective cure. Once people get HIV, they have it for life. But with proper medical care, HIV can be controlled. People with HIV who get effective HIV treatment can live long, healthy lives and protect their partners.
TB germs are spread from person to person –
People living with HIV are more likely than others to become sick with tuberculosis (TB). This is because HIV weakens the immune system, which makes it harder for the body to fight TB germs. TB is a disease that usually affects the lungs. TB sometimes affects other parts of the body, such as the brain, the kidneys, or the spine. TB disease can cause death if it is not treated. TB germs are spread from person to person through the air. TB germs are put into the air when a person with TB disease of the lungs or throat coughs, sneezes, laughs, or sings. People nearby may breathe in the germs and become infected.

Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad’s (IIT-H) incubated Electric Two Wheeler Startup ‘PURE-V’ is launching ‘EPluto7G’, an eco-friendly two wheeler in Nepal. This move is part of a larger plan to expand to other international markets next year with a particular focus on South Asia, South-East Asia and East African countries, where 2-wheelers are predominant.
